PHILADELPHIA (KRT) – Once he got his breath back, Villanova junior Jon Branca told security guards he was fine. He thanked them for their help, for getting a pile of his fellow students off him.
It got scary there for more than a few seconds, after Villanova knocked off the nation’s No. 1 team, Connecticut, and the student section took off for the court. There just wasn’t room for the whole student body to squeeze by the baskets.
At least a dozen students were knocked to the ground because students could not see the people on the floor in front of them and kept pushing.
Associated Press writer Jack Scheuer was knocked underneath the front-row press table. He got out of there, and the table itself was knocked over.
Branca, wearing a “Our guards go to class, your guards go to court” T-shirt, got the worst of it, but said, “I’m fine.”
