COLUMBUS, Ohio – David Vyborny used a wrist shot to score the only goal in the shootout and lifted the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday night.

The Islanders’ Mark Parrish scored the tying goal, his ninth of the season, with 37 seconds left in regulation. He slid in a loose puck from close range with the Islanders on a 6-on-4 skating advantage after goalie Rick DiPietro was pulled.

Sergei Fedorov scored his first goal with the Blue Jackets and Nikolai Zherdev and Adam Foote also scored for Columbus, which had a season-high three power-play tallies.

The Blue Jackets are 3-0 in shootouts this season and 6-0-1 against New York since entering the league in 2000.

Jan Hrdina added two assists, his first points in 16 games, to help the Blue Jackets snap a five-game, home-losing streak.

Mike York, who has six points in two games, and Trent Hunter also scored for the Islanders. New York had its five-game winning streak on the road snapped in falling to 2-2 in shootouts.

Columbus, which entered with the NHL’s worst power play, took a 2-0 lead within the first 8:05.

Zherdev, curling to the goal from the left circle, converted a give-and-go with Hrdina and scored with a low shot from the slot to make it 1-0 at 2:06 for his fifth of the season.

Foote extended the lead during a two-man advantage by ripping a pass from Brian Berard from the left point past a screened DiPietro.

Early in the second period, York jammed home a loose puck from just outside the crease with the Islanders on a power play to make it 2-1.

With the Blue Jackets on another power play, DiPietro robbed rookie Geoff Platt’s attempt from the slot with a diving glove deflection. Fedorov, acquired in a Nov. 15 trade with Anaheim, chipped the rebound over the sprawled goaltender from just outside the crease at 16:52.

New York responded just over a minute later to make it 3-2 on Hunter’s slap shot from the left circle.

Columbus has won three of four.
