LEWISTON – Casey D’Annolfo passed for 255 yards and four touchdowns as Tufts defeated Bates 34-7 on Saturday.

Tufts (2-0) opened the scoring with D’Annolfo’s 59-yard touchdown pass to J.B. Bruno in the first quarter and D’Annolfo added three scoring passes to Brian VonAncken, who had a total of catches for 100 yards.

William Forde rushed for 55 yards for Tufts, including a 17-yard touchdown.

The lone Bates (0-2) touchdown came on a pass from Brandon Colon to Dylan McNamara in the second quarter.

Bowdoin 16, Amherst 13

AMHERST, Mass. – Linebacker Dave Donahue returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown and recovered two fumbles, as Bowdoin held off Amherst 16-13 on Saturday.

Amherst (1-1, 1-1 NESCAC) outgained Bowdoin 399 to 139, but turned the ball over seven times. Donahue’s interception return in the first quarter and Jared Prichard’s 2-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter gave Bowdoin (2-0, 2-0) a 13-0 halftime lead. A 42-yard field goal by Nolan McNair early in the third made it 16-0.

Colby 20, Middlebury 7

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – John Bateman completed 15 of 28 passes for 158 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception to lead Colby to a 20-7 win over Middlebury College on Saturday.

Colby (2-0) scored on its opening drive. Bateman found Roddy Ames 15 yards down field, with Ames carrying the ball for a 56-yard scoring play.

Leading 7-to-0 at the half, Colby doubled the lead with five minutes remaining in the third quarter as Mike Bracco picked off a pass and returned it 53 yards.

Husson 62, Mount Ida 14

BANGOR – Junior quarterback Dave Chase of Sabattus threw for 203 yards and four touchdowns to power Husson to a 62-14 win over Mount Ida at homecoming for the Eagles’ first win of the season in football action on Saturday.

The Eagles (1-2) scored on each of their possessions in the first half, building a 42-6 halftime lead. Sophomore Jeremy Shorey of Lisbon caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Chase and senior fullback Jason Jack of South Paris punched in a 1-yard run.

Women’s soccer

Tufts 2, Bates 1

LEWISTON – Senior forward Ariel Samuelson scored with 6:23 remaining in the second overtime to vault Tufts University to a 2-1 win over Bates College in a NESCAC women’s soccer matchup on Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (5-2) grabbed a 1-0 lead 13 minutes into the game when junior forward Kim Alexander booted in a loose ball from close range.

Bates 2, Tufts 1

LEWISTON – Forwards Terence O’Connell and Brent Morin scored back-to-back goals less than three minutes apart in the second half to propel Bates to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Tufts University in a NESCAC men’s soccer contest on Saturday afternoon.

O’Connell headed in a corner kick from teammate Ithai Schori midway through the second half to tie the game at 1-1.

Then with 26:26 remaining in regulation, Morin lit off a rocket from 40 yard out that scraped under the crossbar to boost the Bobcats (5-1-1) into the lead.

Field hockey

UMF 3, Becker 2

LEICESTER, Mass. – Kristy Veazie and Kristen Allen scored unanswered goals in the second half for the University of Maine at Farmington as the Beavers marched off with a a 3-2 victory against Becker College in field hockey action on Saturday.

The Hawks (3-6) opened the scoring with a goal by Rachel Fink at 17:02 during a scramble in front of the Beavers (6-2) net. UMF answered with an unassisted goal by Lauren Stevens only 58 seconds into the second half.
