NEW YORK – Long after Mark Mulder and Pedro Martinez were gone, Larry Walker helped the St. Louis Cardinals rally past the New York Mets.
Walker pinch-hit in the eighth inning and had a go-ahead sacrifice fly against Roberto Hernandez, leading the Cardinals to a 7-6 victory Saturday.
Mulder allowed six runs and 10 hits in five-plus innings, his ERA rising from 2.70 to 3.44. Martinez gave up five runs -four earned – and five hits in six innings.
Martinez breezed before walking John Mabry and giving up a long two-run homer to Mark Grudzielanek.
Grudzielanek made it 3-0 in the fourth with an RBI single after Mabry’s double off the wall in right-center.
Abraham Nunez homered leading off the sixth, and Grudzielanek hit a sacrifice fly after first baseman Miguel Cairo let a grounder carom off his glove into foul territory for an error, putting runners on the corners with one out.

HOUSTON – Roger Clemens struck out a season-high 10 in his 331st career win, pitching the Houston Astros past the San Francisco Giants 4-1.
Lance Berkman hit his first home run of the season after a two-run shot by Craig Biggio in the sixth inning, helping Houston end a four-game losing streak with its second victory in 12 games.

PHILADELPHIA – Ken Griffey Jr. hit a go-ahead three-run homer and Adam Dunn added a solo shot in a six-run seventh inning, lifting the Cincinnati Reds to a 12-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies .

PITTSBURGH – Mark Redman pitched his first career shutout to finally win after a long run of excellent but unsuccessful starts, and Jose Castillo’s two-run double carried the Pittsburgh Pirates past the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0.

SAN DIEGO – Jake Peavy regained his form, holding the Marlins to one run and five hits in seven innings and leading San Diego to a 2-1 win.

MINNEAPOLIS – Kenny Rogers pitched a five-hitter and ran his scoreless streak to 30 innings, leading the Texas Rangers to a 5-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins .

CLEVELAND – Jhonny Peralta homered to snap a seventh-inning tie, and the Cleveland Indians beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -Emil Brown hit a go-ahead double in the eighth inning, and left fielder Terrence Long made a leaping catch with two outs in the ninth to preserve the Kansas City Royals’ 6-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays .

CHICAGO – Brian Roberts had three doubles, and Miguel Tejada doubled in the go-ahead run in a four-run seventh inning as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Chicago White Sox 9-6.

OAKLAND, Calif. – Derek Jeter and Tino Martinez hit three-run homers, Alex Rodriguez added his major league-leading 12th shot and the Yankees won their seventh straight, beating the A’s 15-6 .
