PORTLAND (AP) – Brad Boyes scored two goals and added an assist as the Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 5-3 Saturday in the American Hockey League.

Andy Hilbert tallied a goal and two assists for the Bruins, while Brian Sutherby notched a goal and an assist in the Pirates loss.

After a scoreless first period, Providence (22-17-2-6) grabbed a 2-0 lead when Boyes collected his first of the evening and Hilbert followed. Boyd Gordon scored first for the Pirates (17-22-3-4) but was answered by Keith Aucoin.

The Bruins maintained at least a two-goal margin through the third period, with Boyes and Jay Leach scoring for Providence and Sutherby and Brian Willsie connecting for Portland.

Goalie Cody Rudkowski made 30 saves, while Maxime Ouellet had 18 for Portland.
