WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) – Marc-Andre Fleury made 24 saves as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins blanked the Portland Pirates 1-0 Wednesday night.
Matt Murley scored the games lone goal for the Penguins (16-8-4-3). Maxime Ouellet stopped 26-of-27 shots for the Pirates (12-15-3-4).
Murley scored at 6:41 of the second period. Kris Beech sent a pass from the goal line to Ryan Whitney at the right point. He skated toward the center of the ice and threw a shot on net that banked off Murley’s knee and trickled over the goal line.
It was the second shutout of the season for Fleury, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NHL draft. Fleury lost three of his first four starts to open the season. He has lost just once in regulation since, going 12-1-1-2.
Portland lost for the 15th time in its last 19 games. The Pirates have won three road games in 15 tries this season.
