IRVING, Texas – Eighty-five seconds left, no timeouts, 75 yards to go and down by four. It’s situations like that when Bill Parcells feels comfortable having Vinny Testaverde as his quarterback, not some unproven youngster.

Testaverde overcame 3 quarters of booing from home fans wanting to see him benched by leading a dramatic final drive, capping it with a 39-yard touchdown to Patrick Crayton with 30 seconds left that gave the Dallas Cowboys a 13-10 victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

The Cowboys beat the Redskins for the fourth straight time and the 14th time in 15 games. Just like their earlier meeting this season, the clash between Parcells and Joe Gibbs came down to the final play – this time, a 57-yard field goal try by Washington’s Jeff Chandler that was on line but a few yards short.

Dallas (6-9) went ahead 6-3 just before halftime, then fell behind 10-6 with 6:44 left on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Ramsey to Robert Royal.

But Washington (5-10) just couldn’t run out the clock. The Redskins had two three-and-outs and a fumbled punt in between. The Cowboys weren’t much better, though, punting it back twice and turning it over on downs once. Testaverde looked every bit of his 41 years, too, getting sacked three times and making several poor choices on where to throw.

Then he took over at the Dallas 25 with 1:25 left and threw three straight incompletions. Angry fans were already heading out when he hit Crayton for 15 yards on fourth-and-10.

Testaverde stopped the clock with a spike, hit Jason Witten for 14 yards and Richie Anderson for 7 more. Facing third-and-three, he threw deep to Crayton down the right sideline and the seventh-round pick caught it in stride for his first career touchdown.

Testaverde was 23-of-39 for 234 with an interception in the end zone.

Washington running back Clinton Portis left with a bruised shoulder after just one carry in the second half. He had 32 yards on 10 carries.
