LEWISTON — Rose Wollman, viola, and Clare Longendyke, piano, will appear in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, in the Olin Concert Hall, 75 Russell St.

Together and as individuals, Wollman and Longendyke are recognized for the integrity and versatility of their interpretations. Their program includes music by 19th-century composers Henri Vieuxtemps and Johannes Brahms and by contemporary composer Emile Naoumoff.

Praised for her interpretations of both classical and contemporary music,  Wollman is sought as a soloist, chamber musician, teacher, and orchestral musician. Wollman has toured North America and Europe as a founding member of the Larchmere String Quartet and the Petar Jankovich Ensemble. She has recorded CDs with both groups, most notably Clarinet Quintet and String Quartet by Stephan Krehl with the LSQ for the NAXOS label. Orchestra engagements have taken her to Europe and Asia, and she has played under such luminary conductors as Pierre Boulez, Fabio Luisi, Hugh Wolff, Joseph Silverstein and Larry Rachleff.

A champion of promoting and performing new music, Wollman has commissioned, premiered and performed many new pieces, working with groundbreaking composers such as Pierre Boulez, Augusta Read Thomas, David Dzubay, Gabriela Ortiz, and Don Freund. Wollman also enjoys bridging genres. She has recorded with Grammy-nominated percussionist Michael Spiro, and has played Tango with Grammy nominated bassist Pablo Aslan and renown Argentinian pianist Julian Peralta.

Wollman has taught viola and chamber music at the University of Evansville, DePauw University and Indiana University. Currently she is ensemble coordinator and a chamber music coach for Sacred Music at Notre Dame, and performs with ensembles around the country. Wollman holds a DM from Indiana University, as well as degrees from the New England Conservatory and the University of Illinois. Her primary teachers are Atar Arad, Carol Rodland and Masumi Rostad.

Longendyke is a passionate soloist and chamber musician recognized for her colorful musicality, technical fluency and ability to interpret repertoires across the musical spectrum. Longendyke has performed solo and chamber music recitals across Europe and North America and has won first place prizes in competitions in Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois and Massachusetts. She made her orchestral debut in 2012, performing Bartok’s 3rd Piano Concerto with the Indiana University Concert Orchestra.

Longendyke has been a featured soloist in the Fazioli Piano Series in Los Angeles and the Silvermine Artist Series in Connecticut, as well as in performances on American Public Media’s Performance Today. An active performer of new music, she has premiered of over 50 new works since 2012. Longendyke is a founding member of the CT:2 Clarinet and Piano Duo, the Uproar Duo, the Longendyke/Wollman Viola and Piano Duo, and she is the pianist and administrative director of Calliope’s Call, a Boston-based art song performance group. Through her solo and ensemble work, she has worked with and performed the music of living composers Joan Tower, Frederic Rzewski, Tom Cipullo and Joseph Schwantner, among others.

In 2017, Longendyke performed Chopin’s Piano Concerto in E minor with the Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra in Massachusetts and Orlando Cela, conductor. Upcoming engagements include solo recitals in San Francisco, Toronto, and New York City, and performances of Joan Tower’s Piano Concerto with orchestras in Indiana and Iowa. Longendyke holds degrees from the Boston University College of Fine Arts, the École Normale de Musique in Paris, France, and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She lives in Bloomington, Indiana, where she is pursuing a doctorate of music at Indiana University. Longendyke is Lecturer of Music in Piano at Franklin College.
