SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Swin Cash scored a career-high 29 points Saturday, helping the defending WNBA champion Detroit Shock beat the Sacramento Monarchs 84-74 for their fifth straight win.

A slim forward with the quickness of a guard, Cash scored on a variety of shots in the second half, when she had 17 points and the Shock (6-3) pulled away from struggling Sacramento (3-7).

Cash, who has averaged 22 points during the winning streak, made 10-of-15 shots and converted 8-of-11 free throws for Detroit, which started the season 1-3.

Fever 70, Liberty 65

INDIANAPOLIS – Tamika Catchings had 25 points and 12 rebounds – both season highs – to lead the Indiana Fever to a 70-65 victory over the New York Liberty on Saturday night.

It was Catchings’ first double-double of the season and the 24th of her career. She was 8-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point range, and made all five of her free throws.

Kelly Miller added 10 points for the Fever (6-4).

Lynx 66, Comets 58

MINNEAPOLIS – Katie Smith scored 22 points to help the Minnesota Lynx snap a two-game losing streak with a 66-58 victory over the Houston Comets on Saturday night.

Tamika Williams added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Lynx (5-5). Sheryl Swoopes, slowed by a sore right ankle, led the Comets (6-6) with 18 points, and Michelle Snow had 14. Minnesota led by as many as nine points in the first half.
