FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) – The New England Patriots on Wednesday signed defensive tackle Keith Traylor, filling a hole left by the departure of Ted Washington.

Traylor, 34, an unrestricted free agent, joined the Patriots after three seasons with the Chicago Bears. The upcoming season will be his 13th in the NFL.

The terms of his contract were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 340-pound defender has started 107 of 171 games. He has 427 career tackles, including 13 sacks.

As a third round pick in 1991, the then-linebacker from Central Oklahoma was drafted by the Denver Broncos and earned all-rookie honors from Pro Football Weekly and Football Digest.

Traylor briefly played with the Kansas City Chiefs from 1995-96 before returning to the Broncos to play four more seasons and helping them win Super Bowl titles in 1997 and 1998.

His two career interceptions include one in 1997 he returned for 62 yards and one in 2001 he returned for 67 yards.

In early March, Washington agreed to a $14 million, four-year contract with the Raiders. He turned down an $8 million, three-year offer from the Patriots to become a free agent.
