FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) – David Ortiz kept his slugging touch from last year and so did the Boston Red Sox.

He hit his spring training-leading sixth homer and Kevin Millar and Doug Mirabelli hit their first, lifting the Red Sox to a 9-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.

Boston has scored 29 runs in its last three games.

Tim Wakefield pitched four shutout innings in his best outing of the exhibition season and got seven of his 12 outs on popups or fly balls.

“That and some swings and misses is a good indication” that his knuckleball was working, he said.

Toronto’s Justin Miller struck out three and allowed one hit in three shutout innings in his first start after undergoing shoulder surgery last May 29.

“It was OK, but I have a long way to go on my slider,” said Miller, who is competing for a roster spot and is out of options. “You don’t know what to expect from your body or what to expect from your arm after surgery. I think when I get the slider I will be 100 percent.”

Ortiz hit just two homers in Boston’s first 54 games last year and 29 in the last 108. His .592 slugging percentage was third in the AL, and he finished fifth in the MVP voting.

“It’s just the way he left off last year,” Red Sox hitting coach Ron Jackson said.

Ortiz is 10-for-29 with 30 total bases in 10 games but isn’t getting overconfident.

“I never pay attention to spring training,” he said. “In spring training, all you try to do is pull yourself together for the season.”

The Red Sox maintained their 1-0 lead through 51/2 innings before Millar’s three-run homer and Mirabelli’s two-run shot made it 6-0 against David Bush.

Toronto staged a four-run rally in the seventh against Keith Foulke, capped by Josh Phelps’ two-run single.

Boston came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning when Johnny Damon, David McCarty and Mike Curry all doubled. Brian Daubach added a sacrifice fly.

Notes: Toronto 2B Orlando Hudson, out since last Tuesday with a mild groin injury, is expected to play Sunday against Detroit. … Cy Young award winner Roy Halladay makes his fourth start of the exhibition season Sunday, facing Gary Knotts. … Millar went 3-for-3 and has two singles, a double and a homer in his last four at-bats.
