Maine’s Legislature is considering renewal of a tax credit for Bath Iron Works in return for BIW expanding operations and maintaining at least 5,000 employees.

But the U.S. government pays BIW’s parent company, General Dynamics, handsomely. General Dynamics would be double-dipping. And I, paying both Maine and federal taxes, would be handing out money in both directions. That’s called double-dipped.

General Dynamics wants to suck extra money out of Maine on the strength of an implied threat of maybe not keeping up employment levels. That’s called blackmail.

And it is greed if you do this even though you are rich enough to spend billions of dollars in stock buy-backs.

I think Maine’s state legislators can express loyalty to Maine interests by voting down LD 1781
