ALBANY, N.Y.- Freddy Petkus scored 12 points and Mark Flavin added 10 to give Maine a 48-36 comeback win over Albany Saturday afternoon.
It was Maine’s fifth straight win.
Albany (4-19, 2-12 America East) rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit to take a 30-29 lead. Jon Iati hit a jumper from left of the lane to put his team ahead for the first time with 10:45 remaining.
But Maine (16-7, 10-4) answered with an 8-0 run to take the lead for good.
Chris Markwood hit a follow shot off a missed jumper and Ludmil Hadjisotirov nailed a 3-pointer. Flavin then converted a conventional 3-point play to give Maine a 37-30 advantage with 4:22 left.
Petkus went 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the final two minutes.
Albany was held to 26.8 percent shooting and its lowest scoring total since 1973.
Bates 81, Middlebury 58
LEWISTON – Bates College placed four different players in double digits while cruising to an 81-58 win over Middlebury College.
Ramon Garcia paved the way for the Bobcats with 16 points, Zak Ray and Rob Stockwell added 12 apiece and Jon Furbush chipped in with 11.
St. Joseph’s 70, Husson 65
BANGOR – Curtis Nelson scored 19 points to lead St. Joseph’s to a 70-65 win over Husson.
Noah LaRoche added 15 points for the Monks.
The Braves were led by Phil White and Dwayne Ailey with 19 points apiece.
UMF 71, Mount Ida 58
FARMINGTON – Steve Ginn poured in a game-high 21 points and Travis Magnusson added 13 to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 71-58 win over Mount Ida.
Luke Neilson had 10 points while hauling down 14 rebounds in the win.
UNE 71, Eastern Nazarene 49
BIDDEFORD – Brandon Berthiaume and Nick Faryanz combined for 20 points in the first half as the University of New England raced out to a 25-14 lead and never looked back as they downed Eastern Nazarene College 71-49 Saturday.
Matt McManus drilled six 3-pointers to pace the Nor’easters with 18 points.
Bowdoin 84, Colby 70
BRUNSWICK – T.J. McLeod scored 20 as Bowdoin secured an 84-70 win over Colby.
Kyle Petrie notched a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Polar Bears.
Andrew Jenkins scored 18 points for Colby.
Women’s basketball
USM 84, RIC 46
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tiffany Jones scored a game-high 19 points as the University of Southern Maine won its 19th straight game, handing Rhode Island College an 84-46 setback.
Katie Frost added 14 points, while Megan Myles tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies.
The Anchorwomen were led by Kari Geisler with 17 points.
St. Joseph’s 57, Husson 50
BANGOR – Morgan Brownlee poured in a game-high 17 points as St. Joseph’s College downed Husson 57-50.
The Monks Megan Tetrault and Abbie Rice added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Braves were paced by Crystal Martin’s 11 points.
Thomas 78, Lasell 67
WATERVILLE – Amanda Godley scored 17 points to lead Thomas to a 78-67 win over Lasell.
UNE 82, Eastern Nazarene 50
BIDDEFORD – Amanda Brown and Missy Stults scored 21 points apiece to lead the University of New England to an 82-50 win over Eastern Nazarene.
UMF 82, Mount Ida 38
FARMINGTON – Karen Sirois tallied a game-high 16 points as the University of Maine at Farmington downed Mount Ida 82-38.
Kari Simpson added 15 points for the Beavers.
Bates 80, Middlebury 44
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Betsey Hochadel and Oliva Zurek each scored 19 points to lead Bates to an 80-44 win over Middlebury.
Bowdoin 76, Colby 48
BRUNSWICK – Eileen Flaherty scored 14 points as unbeaten Bowdoin crushed Colby 76-48.
Lora Trenkle contributed 13 points as the Polar Bears (23-0) remain undefeated. Wendy Bonner had a game-high 15 points for the White Mules.
Men’s Hockey
Colby 6, Salem State 2
SALEM, M.A. – Brain Chisholm netted the eventual game-winner as Colby rolled over Salem State 6-2.
Kevin Lyons and Jake Bayley each tallied a goal and an assist for the Mules (12-6-3).
Salem State (11-10-2) received goals from Mike Dowd and Paul Knight.
Women’s hockey
Maine 2, UNH 2 OT
ORONO – The University of Maine skated to a 2-2 with the University of New Hampshire.
Megan Aarts and Karen Droog scored for the Black Bears (8-13-4).
Wiliams 7, Colby 4
WATERVILLE – Molly Wasserman had two goals and an assist to lead Williams College to a 7-4 win over Colby.
Heather DeVito netted the first goal of the contest to give the White Mules an early lead, but Williams tied the game at 11:53 on a goal by Ashley Wood before scoring three goals in the final 59 seconds of the first period.
Kate Sweeney recorded a goal and an assist for Colby
