ORONO – Kevin Reed scored 12 of his game-high 15 points in the second half to lead Maine to a 56-50 win over Albany in an America East game Sunday.

The Black Bears (10-5, 4-2) overcame a shaky shooting effort, going only six of 29 from 3-point range, as Maine’s defense held the Great Danes (3-12, 1-5) to their lowest scoring output of the season.

Reed and Joe Campbell each grabbed 11 rebounds for Maine and Campbell also chipped in 11 points.

Albany had four players in double figures, led by Jon Iati’s 12 points. Levi Levine added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Maine jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the game, but Albany pulled to within 21-19 by halftime as the Black Bears didn’t score over the final six minutes of the first half.

The game went back and forth for a good part of the second half until Maine took command with a 7-0 run to lead 48-38 with 5:29 to go.

Mt. Ida 80, UMF 67

NEWTON, Mass. – Josh Didick drained 25 points to lead Mt. Ida College to a 80-67 win Sunday over the University of Maine at Farmington.

Scott Chamberlain added 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Mustangs used a 41-34 run in the second half secure the victory.

The Beavers were led by Luke Nielson with 17 points while Steve Ginn and Trafton Teague added 13 points apiece.

Lasell 88, Thomas 60

NEWTON, Mass. – Steve Chambain scored 18 points to pace Lasell College to an 88-60 triumph over Thomas in men’s basketball action Sunday.

Ryan Conrad led the Terriers with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Women’s hoop
Thomas 66, Lasell 63

NEWTON, Mass. – Tammy Fowler torched the nets for a game-high 24 points and hauled down eight rebounds to lead Thomas College to a thrilling 66-63 win over Lasell College Sunday afternoon.

The Terriers (5-9) held a commanding 10-point margin at halftime and withstood a charge in the second half.

Women’s hockey
RIT 3, USM 1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Meghan Ericson scored with one second left in the second period to propel Rochester Institute of Technology to a 3-1 victory over Southern Maine in women’s hockey.

The lone goal for the Huskies (6-6-1) came from Bevin Padgett with assists going to Kerry Leonard and Jessica Judge.
