HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Ivan Ciernik’s goal 5:04 into the third period gave the Portland Pirates a 1-1 tie with the Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League Wednesday night.
The tie enabled the Wolf Pack to extend their Atlantic Division lead to six points over Manchester.
Ciernik’s rebound goal off Dwayne Zinger’s shot gave the Pirates points in 11 of their last 12 games (6-1-3-2).
But the Pirates are 0-7-3 against the Wolf Pack since a 2-1 victory in Hartford March 28, 2001.
The Wolf Pack, who are 5-0-1 against Portland this season, took a 1-0 lead 36 seconds into the second period when Garth Murray scored from the left circle off a pass from Jeff Heerema.
The Wolf Pack’s Jason LaBarbera (24 saves) made sliding stops off Boyd Gordon and Andrej Podkonicky in the second period.
Maxime Ouellett had 25 saves for the Pirates, including a glove stop on Heerema during a Wolf Pack power play in overtime.
