MECHANIC FALLS — RSU 16 Adult Education announces several upcoming learning opportunities.

Registration may be completed online at mechanicfalls.maineadulted.org, by mail at P.O. Box 129, Mechanic Falls, ME 04256, in person at 129 Elm St., or by calling 207-345-3217.

Chalk Painting: 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, April 9 and 23. Participants will bring a small piece of wooden furniture to class and give it a vintage, cottage, antique or modern look. A supply list will be provided upon registration. $24.

Computer Classes: New computer classes start on Wednesday, April 4, with Kevin Ellingwood. Call or see the website for more information on classes from basics to Microsoft and Google applications. Cost is $75 per eight-week sessions. Keyboarding is also available for $50.

Environmental Toxins and Their Impact: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 7. How do the toxins in the world impact the risk of cancer? Maureen Higgins, Dempsey Center, will share information to make more informed choices. The course is free, but advance registration is required. 

French For Fun!: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 24 through May 29. Students will begin to learn French for fun and/or travel in the six-week introductory French class with French teacher, Jerryanne LaPerriere. Cost is $60.

Geocaching: What exactly are geocaches and travel bugs? Participants can find out more about this outdoor treasure hunting activity; they should bring a device to set up an account on geocache.com. Cost is $12.

Introduction to Self-Employment: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 5. The class will look at entrepreneurship, pros and cons, ways to manage risk, elements of a business plan, important financial pieces and steps needed for start-up. The course is free, but advance registration is required. 

Medicare 101: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25. Part A, B, C, D … Which one covers what? This SeniorsPlus class with Deb Cartwright will help sort everything out in order to make informed decisions.  The course is free, but advance registration is required. 

Melt & Pour Soap-Making: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 26. Everything needed to take home a colorful “loaf” of soap will be provided in this class. Cost is $24.

Social Security: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29. The course will offer investment strategies to help design retirement with the flexibility to help handle unexpected events. Cost is $5.

Tips on Writing a Children’s Book: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 5. Students will learn strategies from author Tamra Wight on how to create interesting characters, map out solid plots and submit work. Cost is $12.
