MILWAUKEE (AP) – Joe Smith made two free throws with 11 seconds left and Toni Kukoc scored nine fourth-quarter points to lead the Milwaukee Bucks past the Boston Celtics 100-94 Saturday night, in the second game of a home-and-home series between the teams.
Milwaukee blew a 15-point second-quarter lead, fell behind by 12 in the third quarter and rallied to become the first team to score 100 points against the Celtics this season.
With Boston trailing 96-93, Paul Pierce was fouled while taking a 3-pointer with 12 seconds to go, but missed two of three free throws. Pierce, an 89 percent free throw shooter coming in, missed 5-of-8 from the line.
After a timeout, Boston fouled Smith, who sank both free throws for a 98-94 lead. Vin Baker missed a 3-pointer, and Michael Redd hit a pair of free throws for the final margin.
Redd had 23 points, Desmond Mason had a season-high 22 points and Smith had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Milwaukee.
Mike James had a career-high 23 points and Pierce scored 21 for the Celtics, which beat the Bucks 106-96 Friday night in Boston.
Boston opened its biggest lead, 58-46, on James’ 3-pointer with 7:34 left in the third quarter.
Milwaukee’s defense was strong early and the Bucks opened a 34-19 lead on Erick Strickland’s 3-pointer with 5:59 left in the second quarter.
The Bucks didn’t make another field goal until the third quarter, and Boston ran off 19 consecutive points to take a 38-34 lead on James’ 3-pointer with 2:01 left in the quarter.
Notes: Pierce left the game with 10:04 left in the third quarter with an injury to his left hand. He returned with 7:49 left in the quarter. … Bucks F Tim Thomas missed his second consecutive game with a sprained ankle. Mason started in his place. … James previous career high was 20 points on March 20 with Miami against Dallas. … The Celtics came into the game shooting 29 percent on 3-pointers, but were 12-of-24 against the Bucks.
