Portland suffers its fifth consecutive loss.
PORTLAND (AP) – Jay McClement scored 1:15 into overtime as the Worcester IceCats defeated the Portland Pirates 3-2 Saturday in the American Hockey League.
Sergei Varlamov scored a goal and added two assists and Christian LaFlamme had a pair of assists as the IceCats prevailed for the second consecutive night and handed the Pirates their fifth straight loss.
Colin Forbes netted both goals for the Pirates (8-12-0-2).
The IceCats (9-8-5-0) led 2-0 at the first intermission. After Varlamov connected on the power play 12:29 into the game, Ernie Hartlieb scored at 16:22.
Forbes’ first goal of the evening came on the power play 11:27 into the second period and his second tied it at 5:41 of the third.
Worcester goalie Reinhard Divis earned the win with 19 saves, including sensational stops on point-blank attempts in the first and second periods. Portland’s Maxime Ouellet turned aside 35 shots.
