BUFFALO, N.Y. – Miroslav Satan and Daniel Briere each had a goal and an assist as the Buffalo Sabres won their first game of the season, 4-3 over the Dallas Stars on Monday.

The Sabres, shutout in their first two contests, finally discovered their offense early against Dallas.

Ales Kotalik snapped the Sabres’ scoreless streak at 124 minutes, 36 seconds with a goal in the first period.

Just 29 seconds later, the Sabres scored again as Taylor Pyatt lifted a wrist shot over Marty Turco’s shoulder.

Hurricanes 2, Panthers 2

RALEIGH, N.C. – Roberto Luongo stopped 33 shots to keep Carolina winless as the Florida Panthers tied the Hurricanes 2-2 Monday night.

The Hurricanes scored one goal in each of their first two losses and did one better than that against the Panthers, but Luongo was as tough to beat as four days ago when the Panthers defeated Carolina 3-1.

Luongo saved his best stop for overtime when he stoned a wide open Sean Hill from 20 feet with a beautiful glove save.

Blue Jackets 3, Canucks 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Todd Marchant had a goal and two assists – his first points in a Columbus uniform – as the Blue Jackets beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 Monday night.

It was the fastest the Blue Jackets (2-1) have won two games in their four years. It took them five games last year, 14 games the year before and 10 games in their inaugural NHL season.

Rick Nash scored on a redirect with 10:16 left for the winning goal.

Capitals 2, Maple Leafs 2

TORONTO – Olaf Kolzig made 34 saves, and Robert Lang scored the tying goal on the power play as the Washington Capitals rallied for a 2-2 draw with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night.

Toronto captain Mats Sundin received a holding penalty before Lang’s one-timer tied it at 2 at 8:49 of the third period.

Sergei Gonchar also scored for the Capitals, who were outshot 36-18.

The Maple Leafs, who were booed off the ice in Saturday’s 4-0 season-opening loss to Montreal, went 1-for-8 on the power-play.

Washington’s Boyd Gordon scored on his own net in the first period. Gordon, a rookie, stuck his stick out on Toronto’s Nik Antropov’s cross-ice pass.

Gonchar tied it with a power-play goal at 9:33 of the second, but Gonchar and Jeff Halpern received penalties before Alexander Mogilny gave Toronto the lead during a two-man advantage.

Defenseman Ric Jackman faked a shot before passing to Mogilny, whose one-timer from the side of the net beat Kolzig.

Toronto outshot Washington 18-4 in the second, but scored just once in the period.

Notes: New Raptors coach Kevin O’Neill attended the game. O’Neill sat next to Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment chairman Larry Tanenbaum. … The Maple Leafs were the last team in the NHL to score a goal this season. … The Capitals managed just three shots in the first. … Toronto’s Robert Reichel left the game with 2:45 left after being elbowed into the boards by Washington’s Mike Grier.
