LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Pete Rose Jr. is back in baseball.

The 34-year-old son of baseball’s all-time hits king signed with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the independent Northern League on Tuesday and will join the team for its game at Fargo-Moorhead on Tuesday night.

Drafted by Baltimore in 1988, Rose reached the major leagues in 1997. He played 11 games for Cincinnati, going 2-for-14, scoring two runs and striking out nine times.

Earlier this month, Rose took over on an interim basis as the manager of the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League, replacing former Cincinnati pitcher Tom Browning.

In 2002 and 2003, Rose played for the Winnipeg Goldeyes, also of the Northern League.
