WELD — A Franklin County sheriff’s deputy is investigating mailboxes being blown up on the West Side Road between Thursday night and Friday morning, Lt. Niles Yeaton said.
“We have suspects,” he said, and they are adults.
The three or four mailboxes were blown up using household items that cause a chemical reaction, Yeaton said.
Deputy David Rackliffe responded to the first report Friday from a U.S. Postal Service representative in Weld. The other reports followed, Yeaton said.
“We are going to involve a U.S. Postal Service inspector” and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, he said. Blowing up a mailbox is a federal crime, Yeaton said.
