SETTLE (AP) – The Boston Red Sox activated reliever Scott Williamson from the 60-day disabled list Thursday and designated infielder Earl Snyder for assignment.

Williamson has been sidelined most of the season because of a sore pitching elbow.

The right-hander has pitched in 21 games for the Red Sox this season, compiling a 1.25 ERA over 21 2-3 innings.

Williamson first went on the 15-day disabled list May 21 with right elbow inflammation.

He was activated June 11, but went back on the disabled list on July 2 with a right elbow strain.

He missed almost the entirety of the 2001 season after Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow.

The Red Sox got Williamson in a trade with Cincinnati on July 29, 2003, and he was 2-0 with three saves in the playoffs before the Red Sox lost to the Yankees in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Snyder played in one game for the Red Sox this season, going 1-for-4. He led the International League in home runs with 36.
