BOSTON – The Boston Celtics re-signed veteran forward Walter McCarty to a multiyear contract Saturday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

McCarty played in all 82 games with the Celtics last season and averaged 6.1 points and 3.5 rebounds.

“We are thrilled to have Walter back as a member of the Boston Celtics,” said Danny Ainge, executive director of basketball operations. “He’s been an important part of what this team has accomplished the past few seasons and we feel he will be an integral part of what we hope to achieve in the future.”

McCarty has played the last seven seasons with Boston after being acquired from New York in 1997.

Clippers reach deal with free agent Elton Brand

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Clippers retained All-Star forward Elton Brand on Saturday by matching an offer sheet he signed with the Miami Heat earlier this week.

The Clippers did not disclose the terms of Brand’s deal, which is believed to be worth $82.2 million over six years. Los Angeles had 15 days to match the offer sheet Brand signed with the Heat on Wednesday.

Brand averaged 18.5 points, 11.3 rebounds and 39.6 minutes in 62 games last season.

The first overall selection by the Chicago Bulls in the 1999 NBA draft, Brand has averaged 19.2 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 38.3 minutes over his four-year career.
