FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) – Former New England forward Chris Brown scored his second goal of the season to give the San Jose Earthquakes a 1-0 victory over the Revolution.

San Jose (9-7-7) snapped a 266-minute scoreless streak when Brown scored on a header off of a cross from Ian Russell in the 48th minute.

San Jose played without four starters due to national team call-ups, including Landon Donovan and Brian Ching, who both scored goals in the USA’s 2-0 victory over El Salvador in a World Cup qualifying match held at Gillette Stadium before the MLS game.

The Revolution (5-10-9) had their chances, but San Jose goalie Jon Conway, making just his third start of the season, earned his first shutout by making a great saves on Taylor Twellman in the 23rd minute and Brian Kamler in the 69th minute.

In addition, Twellman put a point blank shot in the 81st minute off the left goal post.

With the win, the Earthquakes extended their unbeaten streak against the Revolution to 10 matches (8-0-2). New England has not beaten San Jose since July 22, 2000.
