PORTLAND (AP) – Tommy Hottovy pitched six shutout innings and Brandon Moss drove in three runs, leading the Portland Sea Dogs past the Binghamton Mets 6-0 Wednesday in the Eastern League.
David Bacani and Alberto Concepcion knocked RBI doubles in Portland’s 14-hit attack.
The Sea Dogs (67-61) won the crucial series 2-1 and lead the Mets (64-64) by three games in the race for the second playoff berth in the Northern Division.
Moss’ two-run homer was the key hit as the Sea Dogs grabbed an early lead by scoring once in the first inning and twice in the third. Back-to-back doubles by Bacani and Concepcion sparked two Portland runs in the fifth and Moss’ RBI triple made it 6-0 in the sixth.
Hottovy (1-4) struck out five, walked three and allowed two hits in his best outing of the season. Binghamton starter Miguel Perez (6-7) took the loss.
