TURNER – SAD 52 River Valley Adult and Community Education will offer a variety of academic classes this summer, with some starting the week of July 6.

Classes will focus on the three concepts of biology: The structure, organization and function of living things; biotic and abiotic factors in an environment determine interactions among organisms; and evolution of species occurs over time and is related to the environment in which the species live.

Earth science will be a laboratory course, emphasizing the process of scientific investigation through the study of the physical world. The course will teach students the quantitative nature of knowledge and the skills of scientific investigation.

Literature in theater, an English credit course, will start Monday, July 13. Students will view a range of films based on works of literature and actual events. Through response papers and essays, students will improve their writing skills and develop analytical thinking skills.

Also starting July 13, day and evening math classes will include basic math, consumer math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry. The courses are student self-directed with individual help from the teacher.

Algebra I will begin Monday, July 20, and provide direct instruction in a traditional classroom setting. The high school textbooks will be used. The intensive three-week course will cover the entire Algebra I curriculum and prepare students for future high school math requirements.

Chemistry will begin Monday, July 27. It is a basic high school level course including lab and designed especially for those planning on entering vocational training.

It is the students/parents responsibility to check with their local guidance department to assure that the SAD 52 Adult Education summer school credits will be honored.
