WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, Order of Eastern Star, held initiation on April 29 at a special meeting.

Guest officers attending were Stephanie J. Dupal, associate grand conductress, as associate matron; Samuel Kelly, worthy patron, Pioneer Chapter 11, associate patron; Betty J. Perkins, past matron, Abenaki 116, Esther; Josephine Dupal, worthy matron, Pioneer Chapter 11, Martha; Patricia Rea, past matron, Pine Cone Chapter 26, Electa; and Newell Farrington, past grand patron and worthy patron, Vernon Valley Chapter 68, warder.

Other special guests were Paul R. Connelly, worthy grand patron, Grand Chapter of Maine; Donald Pierce and Robert M. L. Cone, General Grand Chapter Committee members and past grand patrons; and John H. Coombs, past grand patron.

Connelly welcomed the new members to the largest fraternal organization for women and men in the world. He stressed that they would always have friends no matter where they went.

The worthy matron introduced Thelda Dobbins, a 76-year member. Dobbins had just celebrated her 95th birthday and was serenaded with the “Happy Birthday Song.”

During a meeting in April, Corley Anne Byras, grand secretary, brought the greetings of the worthy grand matron and worthy grand patron and gave Stanton Leighton, just starting his 15th term as worthy patron, his commission as grand representatives to North Dakota.

Lakeside will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the Grange/Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road, to honor mothers and Memorial Day. The district “Traveling Zoo” will be up for adoption at that time. Women are to wear colored gowns and men dark suits or tuxes. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.
