NORWAY – Stone-Smart Post, American Legion, Auxiliary met recently with President Thelma Denlinger presiding.
The charter was draped in memory of Jeanette Leavitt with Denlinger, Chaplain Christine Weiss and Rose Moulton taking part in the service.
Weiss reported that she has mailed or handed out 560 cards to veterans at the Maine Veterans’ Home and others who were ill or lost a loved one. Ellen Snow reported she has given $7,390 in donations to community service programs.
Barbara Henley reported she will visit Guy E. Rowe School read to second-graders and will have a picture for them to color in celebration of Children and Youth Month. Joyce Clifford reported that 89 members have dues paid.
Marie Pingree and Clifford reported that Poppy Days will be held Friday and Saturday, May 8 and 9, by the post office on Main Street, at Norway Lake Store and Walgreen’s.
New officers were elected for coming year: president, Thelma Denlinger; first vice, Marjy Sessions; second vice, Lucille Allen; secretary, Joyce Clifford; treasurer, Rose Moulton; chaplain, Christine Weiss; sergeant-at-arms, Pam Perkins; Executive Committee, Ellen Snow, Beulah Ayer and Eleanor Durant. Officers will be installed by Evana Grover and team at the May meeting.
Donations were given: to Rose Moulton for flowers at Veterans Memorial Park, Children’s Miracle Network, to Veterans Memorial Park for flowers in memory of Jeanette Leavitt.
The meeting was preceded by an Italian supper, put on by the Legionnaires with Arnold Pendexter as chairman.
