Local Eagle Scout receives award at Court of Honor

FARMINGTON – Ryan Howatt was presented his Eagle Scout Award on March 4 during a Court of Honor at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He earned the award in August just prior to his 18th birthday.

Present to oversee the events was Scout Commissioner George Dobin. Also attending were Reps. Tom Saviello and Lance Harvell and Republican Majority Leader Charlie Webster.

Howatt completed his project to earn the award by building wood duck boxes and setting them up at various places in wood duck habitat. The boxes keep the nests up away from predators.

Howatt, a member of Pack 524, chartered to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was encouraged to seek, guide and direct other young men as they go along the Boy Scout trail.

He repeated his Tenderfoot pledge and the Eagle Scout pledge to be helpful, trustworthy, loyal, clean in body and mind and a good example all.

Howatt worked with his Scout leaders and his parents to achieve the award. The ceremony included an award he presented to his parents for the help they gave him on his journey.

Howatt is a freshman at the University of Maine in Orono and is preparing for a mission.
