FARMINGTON – Several local students were accepted into the Mid Maine Youth Orchestra.

Anthea Fletcher has been accepted as a violinist. She is a junior at Mt. Blue High School and is the daughter of Catherine Kimball and Tony Fletcher, both of Farmington.

Her sister, Claire Fletcher, was accepted as a percussionist. She is a freshman at Mt. Blue High School.

Jason Leavitt was chosen as a cellist. Leavitt is a junior at Mt. Blue High School and is the son of Sheila and Andy Leavitt of New Vineyard.

The orchestra accepts young musicians from the mid Maine region who excel in their instruments. Members were selected by auditions and had to be in good standing in their school band or orchestra.

The orchestra’s philosophy is to foster the development of musical talent in Maine’s youth and to provide musical opportunities. It is under the direction of Andrew J. Forster, music educator at Messalonskee High School, and Mt. Blue music educator Steven J. Muise, who is the associate conductor.

The public was invited to two concerts that were held by the orchestra.
