NORTH TURNER – The congregation of the North Turner Presbyterian Church will celebrate Maine’s fifth season – mud. The annual Mud Supper, which features all things brown, is scheduled for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 27, at the GAR Hall, Route 219.
For those who have not attended the Maine event, they will find things to try like Oklahoma Dirt Cake (it’s really a lot of Oreos), Mud Pie, Rock Cake, the traditional baked beans and, of course, old-fashioned casseroles with “golden” brown tops. Chocolate cream pie and butterscotch pie are always featured and there should be at least two kinds of chili. Add the homemade bread and it’s a celebration of brown.
The annual event also marks the beginning of spring and provides an opportunity to visit with the neighbors.

The church Heifer Project is drawing to a close this spring. The congregation and community have raised more than $3,000 to send food producing animals to an impoverished village in South America.
The program teaches villagers to tend to the livestock, to breed them and, once established, to share with neighboring villages.
The poultry flocks provide eggs, the goats give milk, the llamas and sheep give wool and the heifers provide milk and meat.
Anyone wishing to contribute before the project ends or anyone wishing more information on any church event may call Pastor Ann Marie Simone at 754-2294.
Services at the church are held each Sunday at 9 a.m. and Sunday school is held during services.
The church also holds a hymn sing on the third Sunday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It features piano, organ, guitar and saxophone music and everyone attending chooses the hymns.
