FARMINGTON – The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area has been selected to receive an award of $24,277 as part of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, administered nationally by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.

It is designed to supplement and expand ongoing efforts to provide shelter, food and supportive services for the nation’s hungry, homeless and people in economic crisis.

Locally, the United Way convenes the local board, which determines the allocation of the money to area organizations that meet program criteria.

New applications are welcome. Call Lisa Laflin, United Way of the Tri-Valley Area executive editor, at 778-5048 for application details. Deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 10.
