CARRABASSETT VALLEY – The base lodge at Sugarloaf Mountain will be filled with members of Upcountry Artists as they hold their annual art and craft show on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11 and 12. The show is one of several activities that comprise Sugarloaf’s Homecoming Weekend. Saturday hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sixty members will show paintings, photography, fine furniture and other wooden products. Exhibitors will also offer fabric items, including fleece clothing, quilts and wall hangings, canvas bags and knit items.
Other items will include floral arrangements and wreaths, handmade soaps, baskets, ceramic pottery, Ukranian eggs, leather wallets and bags, jewelry and stained glass.
The show generates the finances to enable Upcountry Artists to continue funding their mission to promote and encourage the arts in the area.
Scholarships are awarded annually to high school seniors furthering their education in the arts. Last year’s scholarship was awarded to Ashton Ireland, a Mt. Blue graduate, who is now enrolled in the graphic design program at Pratt Institute in New York.
The Howard K. Smith Scholarship was awarded to Rangeley graduate, Krista Jamison, who is studying studio arts at the University of Southern Maine with a concentration in photography. Support is also given to Farmington Art in the Park and to Foothills.
New members are always welcome by Upcountry Artists. Meetings, programs and workshops are held from September to June. Those interested may speak to any exhibitor for information regarding membership or visit www.upcountryartists.com.
