Local bank supports Meals on Wheels in L/A
LEWISTON – Northeast Bank has announced a gift of $1,000 to support the Meals on Wheels program of SeniorsPlus, which will benefit seniors in the Lewiston/Auburn area.
This is the fifth year that Northeast has helped support the SeniorsPlus Meals on Wheels program, which delivers hot meals to the homebound. Recent increases in gas prices, a drop in volunteer drivers and federal cuts in aid have put pressure on programs like Meals on Wheels.
“In light of the run-up in gas and food prices, we knew that Meals on Wheels would be affected,” said Jim Delamater, president and CEO of Northeast Bank “Because the program fills such a basic need for so many people in our area, we made a commitment to continue our support.”
“With the generous support of local businesses like Northeast, we can continue delivering meals to those who need them most,” said Connie Jones, director of community services at SeniorsPlus Meals on Wheels. “This is especially important as expenses have skyrocketed and as more people sign up for the program.”
SeniorsPlus is a private nonprofit that offers a network of support, information, services and resources for seniors and adults with special needs and their families. People interested in volunteering or making a monetary donation are welcome. Visit www.seniorsplus.org for more information.
