Merrill’s Yukon trip is topic for society
HEBRON – A presentation on Hebron resident Henry H. Merrill’s trip to the Yukon gold fields in Alaska during 1898 and 1899 will be presented Tuesday, Aug. 26, by Douglas Cooper before the Hebron Historical Society.
Merrill was a member of a group of 12 men who formed a company called Granite State Prospecting and Mining Co. Most of the men came from New Hampshire, with three from Massachusetts and one from Connecticut.
The program will be held at the Hebron Town Office following a short meeting at 7 p.m. The public is invited.
The society held its annual picnic on July 22 at the Greenwood Mountain Inn. A large number of members and families attended, including member Charles George of Pennsylvania.
The continuing search for a new home and possible fundraising activities were discussed.
