MECHANIC FALLS – Dwinal Chapter 28, Order of the Eastern Star, will host a Grand Family event on Saturday, Aug. 9.

The Grand Family consists of the top officers and dignitaries of the Grand Chapter of Maine. The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women can belong.

In a Grand Chapter event, it is customary for the top officers to perform the Eastern Star initiation ceremony. This year’s top two officers are Worthy Grand Matron Susan M. Hawes, who also serves as mayor of Bangor, and Worthy Grand Patron Paul R. Connelly of Newport.

For members, registration and coffee time will begin at 8:30 a.m. The Grand Officers will have a rehearsal at 10, followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m. Seating at the luncheon is limited to 100. The meeting will start at 1:30 p.m.

The event is being hosted by members of Dwinal Chapter, including Worthy Matron Colleen Tibbetts and Worthy Patron Bruce MacDonald.
