RANGELEY – The Church of the Good Shepherd Choir has announced an organ concert for 6 p.m. Sunday, July 6, as part of the choir’s Summer Music Series. Robert Ludwig will perform on the church organ. The free concert is open to all.
Ludwig and his wife, Nancy, are seasonal residents of the Rangeley area. They have called Rangeley their summer home since 1978, although Nancy has been here every summer since 1956. Their view of the area is from an old Pickford log cabin that was moved to Loon Lake where they have restored it and plan to eventually make it their year-round residence.
Ludwig served as a full-time organist/choirmaster for nearly 25 years at the Lexington, Ky., Christ Church Cathedral and the Garden City, N.Y., Cathedral of the Incarnation before becoming a full-time teacher in 2000.
He holds degrees in music from Davidson College and Yale University, pursued additional study in Vienna and the Netherlands and served on the Fulbright Screening Committee for Organ and Harpsichord.
He has served as professor of church music at Mercer School of Theology and as N.Y. American Choral Director’s Association Choir for Boys’ Choirs. He is head of vocal music and music theory programs at Garden City High School (which has recently been recognized as one of the 100 finest school districts for music education in the U.S.) and is minister of music at Garden City Community Church.
In addition to his work as a choral director and solo organist, he is recognized for his expertise as an accompanist, with collaborations including world-renowned classical instrumentalists and singers, Broadway revues, world-class choirs and students. He has performed and conducted throughout the eastern U.S., Canada and England.
Included as part of the musical evening, will be Bach’s “Toccata” and “Fugue in D Minor,” Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings,” Sousa marches and Ragtime music. The evening will conclude with a patriotic sing-a-long.
The concert will begin with a performance at the organ by Daren Decellis, a piano student of Terry Martin, music director at the Church of the Good Shepherd.
