Legion Auxiliary installs officers

NORWAY – Stone-Smart Unit 82, American Legion Auxiliary, met May 14 with newly elected President Thelma Denlinger presiding.

Joyce Clifford, Girls State chairwoman, read the names of girls going to Husson College in June as follows: delegates, Shelby Black, Sarah Prestia, Aleksys Pike and Rachel Brown; alternates, Kelsey Danforth and Courtny Farr.

Offices were installed after supper as follows: president, Thelma Denlinger; second vice, Lucille Allen; secretary, Joyce Clifford; treasurer, Rose Moulton; historian, Ruth Jucius; chaplain, Christine Weiss; sergeant-at-arms, Marie Pingree; executive committee, Eleanor Durant and Beulah Ayer.

Americanism Chairwoman Barbara Henley visited the Guy E. Rowe School to speak to second-graders on Memorial Day.

Carmie Rideout reported about the Karaoke Night on May 31 Legion Hall on Main Street. It will be a monthly event if enough attend.

The post and auxiliary will hold a yard sale at Great Scott Storage in July; all proceeds will help veterans, children and the community. Donations will be accepted.

Delegates chosen for the department convention in Bangor were Lucille Allen and Joyce Clifford. Ruth Jucius and Kim Hansen will be delegates-at-large. Connie Lyons has transferred to the unit.

The unit had a color guard in the Memorial Day parade. Rose Moulton and Marie Pingree carried flags, and Joyce Clifford and Thelma Denlinger were guards. Marilyn Jones placed a wreath at Withrall Park; guards and Kim Hansen put flowers at Memorial Park. Marjy Sessions was in charge of coffee and doughnuts.

Hanley, Hansen and Clifford will serve on the Scholarship Award Committee. It was voted to make a donation to the USO.

The meeting was preceded by a buffet meal, with Rose Moulton in charge, assisted by Beulah Ayer and Thelma Denlinger.
