BRIDGTON – Bridgton Hospital will host its annual “Everyday in a Woman’s Life” Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 7.

Pamela Smith, director of community relations and development, said the event “will be the biggest and best so far. This fair has become a yearly centerpiece of outreach efforts to women in our community, raising awareness of their healthcare needs, of course, but at the same time making the day fun with massages, paraffin hand waxes, demonstrations of watercolor painting and the sale of Kazuri Beads and Java Jewels, which support the FairTrade Women’s Coop in Kenya and Bali. The event has continued to grow, and in 2008 the hospital will utilize both the clinic and main lobby and will offer eight fascinating break-out lectures.”

There will be eight speaker sessions offered on the hour starting at 9. Speakers and topics include:

9 a.m., “Turning Up Your Husband’s Hearing Aid” with Ellia Manners, LCPS; 9:30, “The Perils of Female Obesity” with Dr. Jamie Loggins, chief of bariatric surgery at Central Maine Medical Center; 10, “The Skinny on Health Eating,” Corinne Carrier, RD/LD, dietitian, Central Maine Bariatrics; 10:30, “Laughter – It really is the best medicine!,” Carol Emery, certified laughter leader and director.

Also, 11 a.m., “You’re beautiful! But have you thought a little about plastic surgery and what it can do for you?,” Dr. Steven Bonawitz, surgeon, Central Maine Plastic Surgery; 11:30, “Cooking for the Health-Wise Consumer,” Linda Russell, RD/LD, Bridgton Hospital dietitian.

Also, noon, “Oh No! I have to go into the hospital!,” Linda Allen, medical records, and Kathleen Wohlenberg, social worker; 12:30 p.m., “Blooms Throughout the Summer,” Barbara Murphy, Oxford County Extension Service.

Fair vendors will have interactive booths, offering a range of information and on-site demonstrations. For more information, visit www.bridgtonhospital.org. There will also be a list of raffle drawings, including gift certificates, gift baskets and an overnight getaway in New Hampshire.
