PARIS – The Maine Veterans’ Home in Paris is making plans for National Nursing Home Week May 11 to 17.

It is an annual celebration that focuses on fostering intergenerational relationships, collecting and preserving residents’ reminiscences, strengthening relationships with family members, celebrating quality and recognizing staff members. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Love is Ageless.”

A full agenda is planned for the week for residents, staff, families and volunteers. The week will commence on Mother’s Day and families and friends are invited in for an afternoon tea.

A baby parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 13. Family members and staff are invited to dress up babies and bring them to the home. A display of wedding photos will be shown in the rotunda area.

Music presentations throughout the week will focus on love songs, and movie night will feature a love story. A make-your-own sundae is scheduled for another afternoon. Bulletin boards will be decorated by each unit and judged by the residents.

Each of the three units in the facility will be treated to a “special day,” which will include a special meal or snack time for the unit on their day. Residents, staff and volunteers will also write letters and cards to soldiers serving overseas through a program called “Soldiers’ Angels.”
