LEWISTON – “Shaking the Family Tree: Global Surprises” is the title of a public talk to be presented by Barry Rodrigue at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.
Rodrigue is an archeologist and geographer who serves as the designated scholar for the Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston Auburn College, where he is an associate professor of arts and humanities. Rodrigue also is a project administrator at Family Tree DNA, the world’s largest geo-genetic organization.
In his presentation at LPL, he will discuss research on his own family roots that has expanded from a genealogical and historical exploration of the Maine/Quebec border region to a global study of geographical genetics, which reaches into southern France, Iberia, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.
In his research process, Rodrigue has encountered issues, which, he says, “might have new implications for everyone’s family history.”
Rodrigue’s talk is sponsored by the Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society and will follow the organization’s annual meeting. More information on that organization is available by calling the MFGS office at 786-3327 or consulting their Web site at www.avcnet.org/begin.
