LEWISTON – The Franco-American Heritage Center will hold a Rencontre at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 4. Everyone is welcome, especially if they are interested in speaking French.

The program will be provided by Paul Farrell and the Silvertones. The Silvertones became a group in 1998. The members have been playing and singing with different groups since the late 1950s.

“We sing old popular songs, country western, Irish ballads and French songs. We play Canadian jigs, Irish jigs, polkas, etc. The women sing and play the spoons, make wooden jiggers (dancers) dance on a paddle, and more. We can do an all French program, an all English program, or a mixture.”

For La Rencontre, Farrell said, it will be all in French. He is the leader of the group and sings and plays the guitar. Gilberte Farrell and Aliette Couturier are singers and percussionists. Gerry Poussard is a guitarist and harmonica player, Maurice Pelletier plays the violin and Norman Perrin plays bass guitar, banjo and harmonica.

The meal will be a boiled dinner. For reservations, call Claudette at 786-6936 or the center at 689-2000.
