Dr. Stephen Kinney checks over a cat during a spay/neuter clinic sponsored by the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society.
Spay Day a success
LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society participated in Spay Day USA, a national campaign for the Humane Society of the United States, on Feb. 26. In an effort to promote the benefits of spay/neuter, Dr. Stephen Kinney altered 29 cats during the low-cost feline spay/neuter event.
Due to the event’s success, Kinney will repeat the clinic each month. The communities’ low-income pet owners whose felines are in need of spaying or neutering can contact the shelter at 783-2311 to sign up.
The current clinic dates available are: Monday, March 10; Monday, April 7; and Monday, May 5.
The cost to spay a female is $55 and a male neutering is $25. Rabies shots are also available for $10 each. Pet owners must show proof of state assistance when they sign up for the program.
The humane society provides a haven for more than 5,000 sick, homeless and abused animals a year. Primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising events and donations.
The society is located at 55 Strawberry Ave. For more information on Kinney’s clinic, call the shelter at 783-2311 or visit www.gahumane.org.
