BRIDGTON – The Citizen Science Animal Tracking Program at Holt Pond has yielded some discoveries this winter. In February, a thick crust topped by a light dusting of snow revealed fisher tracks along the Muddy River. The group followed the fisher as he wound his way through tangled alders and dense hemlocks, inspecting tracks that were only a few hours old.

Lakes Environmental Association will host the next installment of the program at Holt Pond at 10 a.m. Friday, March 14. The goal is to collect animal track data and introduce participants to basic animal track patterns and data collection methods.

The tracking trip will last approximately 2.5 hours and will cover moderate terrain. Participants should wear synthetic or wool layers and bring water and a lunch, meeting at the LEA Lakes Center, 230 Main St., to carpool to the preserve.

The program is part of the Caplan Family Environmental Education Series at LEA, sponsored by Hu and Ray Caplan and family. For more information on this and other programs in the series, call LEA at 647-8580 or visit the Web at www.mainelakes.org.
