School auction

PARIS – A ticket auction will be held Saturday, March 1, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School cafeteria. Doors will open at 11 a.m., and the auction will begin at 1 p.m.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and $1 table items. Cost for tickets is $1 each or eight for $5. Lunch and snacks will be available.

Sunday change

WATERFORD – Services at the First Congregational Church, UCC, will begin at 9:30 a.m. starting Sunday, March 9, to coincide with the change to Daylight Savings Time. The church is located on Plummer Hill Road behind the village green in the flat. Phone 583-6381 for more information.

Extends yard sale

PARIS – The Rape Education and Crisis Hotline (REACH) has extended its fundraiser yard sale to the next two Fridays, Feb. 29 and March 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its offices, 1 East Main St., Paris.

Staff is accepting donated items, except clothing and computer/electronic equipment.

Funds raised through the yard sale will go toward child safety programs in the schools. REACH has already given presentations to more than 1,200 elementary school students in Oxford County this school year.

Student show

BRIDGTON – The Bridgton Art Guild, in conjunction with Gallery 302, will host its fifth annual student show Feb. 28 to March 28. The show corresponds with Youth Art Month, which is being celebrated nationally during March.

The show will feature a variety of art work from high school students in Lake Region High School, under the direction of art teacher Cindy Worcester; Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, under the direction of art teacher Ed Stevens; and Fryeburg Academy, under the direction of art teacher Greg Strom.

Two college students will also be a part of the show. Jennifer Hall and Jessica Price are seniors in the art education program at USM, which is directed by Trudy Wilson.

The public is invited to attend the show reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Gallery 302.

Day of prayer

CANTON – World Day of Prayer will be observed Friday, March 7, with the theme, God’s Wisdom Provides New Understanding, chosen by women of Guyana.

The service will be held at 1 p.m. March 7 at the Canton Baptist Church, Route 108. The women of the Congregational Church of East Sumner will lead the service. Refreshments will be provided after. For more information, phone Cynthia Norton at 388-2667.

Potluck lunch

SUMNER – Sumner’s EMA Committee will host a potluck lunch at noon Saturday, March 8, at the Hartford-Sumner Elementary School for residents and landowners. Family fest

WATERFORD – An ice fishing extravaganza will be held on Saturday, March 8, when the Waterford/Stoneham Lions teams with the Waterford Snow Packers for a family winter fest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the point on Bear Pond at the Bear Mountain Inn beach.

Refreshments will be available for a small fee. There will also be raffles. Because parking will not be available at the inn, participants must park on the road

Bridge play

NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Feb. 22 in the Fare Share where a four-table Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in Flight A and B were Beverly Pelletier and Barbara Beegel; second in Flight A, Kathy and Pete Cummings; second in Flight B, Eleanor Griffin and Jim Dickens.

There will be another game at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 29, and all bridge players are welcome. A partner is guaranteed, and there is parking in the rear.
