LEWISTON – Beacon Hospice Inc. of 55 Lisbon St. recently announced the start of a new seven-week volunteer training and orientation program. Orientation will begin on Thursday, Feb. 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. followed by volunteer training sessions from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays, March 6 to April 10.

All sessions will be held at Auburn Hall room 302, Court Street, Auburn. Preregistration is required by Monday, Feb. 18, to allow time for interviews and criminal background checks.

Beacon Hospice provides end-of-life care to local terminally-ill patients out of its office in Lewiston and relies on volunteers to ensure the delivery of care to patients. Volunteers can provide support to patients and their families in a number of ways, including visiting with patients on an ongoing basis, sitting vigil, organizing craft projects and working in the Beacon Hospice office.
