NORWAY – The public is welcome to join others for a discussion of the book “Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace One School at a Time” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Norway Memorial Library.
Written in 2006 by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, the book tells the story of Mortenson’s mission to build schools in a remote area of northeastern Pakistan.
In 1993 mountaineer Mortenson went into an impoverished Pakistan village in the Karakoram mountains after a failed attempt to climb K2. Moved by the inhabitants’ kindness, he promised to return and build a school. “Three Cups of Tea” is the story of that promise and its outcome. Over the next decade Mortenson built 55 schools.
The book is the second is a series of five on the topic of “Making a Difference” to be read and discussed monthly at the Norway Memorial Library.
The third book will be the One Book One Community choice for 2008, “Here If You Need Me” by Kate Braestrup. That discussion will be held on Tuesday, March 18. There will be discussions of the book in 10 libraries throughout the Oxford Hills during March. Books are available to purchase at the library, and for further information call 743-5309.
