LEWISTON – HealthSteps winter specialty classes have been announced. HealthSteps offers a wide range of classes with the core membership fee as well as a variety of specialty classes, including:
Ashtanga Yoga: Primary Standing Series: It is a beginner class is an athletic vinyasa format (meaning poses and breath energetically flow together into the next sequence of movements). Students will gain body strength, increased flexibility and peace and clarity of mind. Wear loose clothing, avoid eating one to two hours before class and bring a yoga mat and water bottle.
Wednesdays, 5 to 6 p.m.; session 1, Jan. 9 to Feb. 6; session 2, Feb. 27 to March 26; instructor, Heidi Audet; cost, $40/session; Lepage large conference room.
Ballroom Dancing: Learn how to glide across a dance floor with the foxtrot and swing. An introductory class for beginners or those who want to brush up on their skills. Mondays, 7 to 8:10 p.m., Jan. 14 to Feb. 11; instructor, Diane Williams; $35 a person; Lepage large conference room.
Racquetball: Specific time slots are available for registration Monday through Friday on the hour for an hour from 6 a.m. to noon. Cost, with core HealthSteps membership, $18 for the 18-week winter/spring session; without core membership, 1-hour, 1x/week, $90 or 1-hour, 2x/week, $144.
Hoops: The class is for those interested in health, fitness and fun. Use a weighted hula hoop. Tuesdays, 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.; session 1, Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29; session 2, Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26; cost per session, $55, which includes a weighted hoop; $35 for those who have previously participated in the class; Lepage large conference room.
Line Dancing: Learn how to do line dances. No partner needed and no previous dance experience required. Mondays, 6 to 7 p.m., Jan. 14 to Feb. 11; instructor, Diane Williams; $30; Lepage large conference room.
Qigong for Rehabilitation: Qigong is ancient Chinese exercise done with the breath. It helps bolster the immune response, lowers blood pressure and provides gentle exercise. The class is open to people who are receiving cancer therapy, those undergoing rehabilitation for musculoskeletal issues, as well as those in drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Tai Chi: An 800-year-old Chinese movement art that has been shown to improve balance, enhance respiratory capacity, lower blood pressure and strengthen immune response.

Zumba: Zumba is a blend of Latin and international dance themes that combines high energy and motivating music with easy-to-follow dance steps and body sculpting movements.
Tuesdays, 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.; session 1, Jan. 8, 15, 20 and 29; session 2, Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26; cost per session, $48; Lepage large conference room.
Exercise for People with Arthritis: The class helps individuals improve range of motion, flexibility, muscle strength, posture, balance and coordination. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.; session 1, Jan. 3 to 31; session 2, Feb. 5 to March 6; instructor, Johanne Healey; $22/session; free with HealthSteps core membership; Bank of America Room, Women’s Pavilion.
Senior Fitness: A one-hour class provides participants with a safe and effective workout that includes a warm-up, cardiovascular component, resistance training to build strength, balance and flexibility exercises.
