CARTHAGE – The Carthage Historical Society will meet at the museum building on Tuesday, Nov. 20, with Dr. Ethel “Billie” Gammon as the speaker. Gammon will share highlights of her 94 years as a teacher, wife, mother and especially her experiences as the motivator of the Norlands Living History Center.
In 2006, the Maine Folklife Center, an organization that is devoted to the preservation of tales and traditions of New England, published “No Flies on Bill,” a book written by Darcy Wakefield, Billie’s granddaughter, about her grandmother. Gammon is in the process of writing a sequel to the first book. The public is invited to a potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. followed by a short business meeting and the program.
Teachers meeting
GREENWOOD – The Oxford County Retired Educators Association will meet Friday, Nov. 16, at the Locke Mills Legion Hall for a program on the new education building and green heating at UMF and hear guests Martha and David Pillsbury.
The fundraiser will be a silent auction, with members bringing items for others to bid on and money going to the scholarship fund. Registration will be at 10:30 a.m. and the business meeting will be followed by dinner. The program is usually finished by 2 p.m.
