Sumner congregation installs pastor
SUMNER – The Rev. Dr. Nancy Miaoulis was installed as pastor of the East Sumner Congregational Church on Sept 16. Miaoulis lives with her husband, George, and son, Nicholas, on a small farm in Wilton.
Miaoulis is professor of marketing at Lynchburg College, Va. Miaoulis received her doctorate in natural resources and environmental studies, environmental ethics track at the University of New Hampshire in May 2005. She received her master of divinity at Bangor Theological Seminary in 1998.
Assisting in the ordination service were the Rev. David Ray, associate minister for small church development, who delivered the sermon, and the Rev. Dick Bennett from Bridgton First Congregational Church, who delivered the charge to the pastor and congregation.
John Cunningham, moderator for the Oxford Association of the Maine Conference of the United Church of Christ, delivered the charge from the association.
Bennett looped string around the pulpit Bible, the minister and the congregation to show that all involved had to work together under God’s teachings from the Bible.
Guitar and vocal music were provided throughout the service by Patricia Greene, sister of Miaoulis. Following the installation, a potluck dinner was served.
